10 Southern Rock Albums Every Music Fan Should Own

3. Brothers Osborne – Skeletons (2020)

Having already taken Nashville by storm, Brothers Osborne - real life siblings TJ and John - are certainly no strangers to the charts, bringing their straight-talking country-with-a-twist to audiences since their 2013 debut. The duo’s third, most recent album Skeletons is their most authentic offering yet, and marks a move to a heavier, more original sound for the country-rockers.

With TJ’s rich molasses voice, John’s wailing guitar, and one supremely catchy chorus, title track “Skeletons” provides the album’s backbone, acting as the basis for its overall grittier, southern rock sound. Showing the band are as suited to any stadium as any bar, pot-positive opener “Lighten Up” will have the crowd waving their lighters, while fiery foot-stomper “All Night” will have the masses well and truly shaking their...hips. Not forgetting their roots, the brothers also make sure to pay homage to outlaw country greats Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings with “Back On The Bottle”, before giving a nod to their dad with the nostalgic “Old Man’s Boots”.

From the album’s excellent guitar-driven instrumental “Muskrat Greene”, to the relevant social commentary of “Hatin’ Somebody”, Skeletons proves that Brothers Osborne are keen to forge their own path on the country rock circuit.
