10 Stupidly Fun Toys Every Musician Needs

1. The Laser Harp

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqMdUQvN-Dk Potentially the coolest thing to be invented for musicians ever, the laser harp is a proper performance piece that every music lover and player should drool over. The laser harp is essentially nothing more than a MIDI controller that uses light rather than keys. The device hooks up to a MIDI interface for it's sounds and fires beams of light upwards in a fan on stage. To play it, you simply break the beams of light and a note or sample will trigger. That's all there is to it, but seeing one in motion is something completely special. The laser harp has been a part of Jean Michel-Jarre's live show for years and it has been used far and wide around the world by a host of performance artists and avante-garde musicians. It's guaranteed to stun your audience and impress even the harshest of critics. That said, who doesn't love lasers? That alone makes it one of the best musical toys out in the market place at the minute. So what do you guys use? Anything cool and unconventional-yet-available the rest of us can get in on?

I am a man of many interests. I am a passionate gamer, running my own YouTube channel (The Gadget Addicts) showing off the best of modern gaming in the form of Let's Play videos. I am an ardent musician, having been a guitarist for the past 13 years. I am also a massive geek, I adore science fiction and fantasy films and TV shows and am trying to work up the courage to start writing a novel. If I can ever think of a good story to tell... I live with my wife in the North East of England and own a belligerent little black cat.
