10 Terrible Rock Bands With One Incredible Album
2. Songs About Jane - Maroon 5
Most of us have pretty much washed our hands with Maroon 5 a long time ago. Ever since the aptly named Overexposed, Adam Levine has pretty much done everything within his power to put his band at the top of the charts, which most of the time involves reaching the absolute bottom of the barrel for songwriting. It's gotten so bad now that if you take a listen to Songs About Jane, it feels like a completely different band.
Though technically the latest iteration of Maroon 5 has most of the key members in the background, this record is the definition of how to do pop rock correctly. As much as Levine might want us to forget this version of the band, their mix of different funk grooves and some of the stickiest melodies of the '00s made for some intriguing stuff, especially when starting things off with a heavy riff on Harder to Breathe.
This is a pop rock record though, and the focus is still on the POP part of that label, with songs like She Will Be Loved and Sunday Morning being the strongest songs on the record. If Adam Levine insists on making the latest version of Maroon 5 one of the most forgettable bands in the world, they at least have this little gem. It may be a guilty pleasure for rock fans, but there's no shame in putting some pop rock in your musical diet.
