10 Terrible Rock Bands With One Incredible Album
1. The State - Nickelback
If you've been reading this far, you've probably noticed that a lot of these records involve some of the first albums that a lot of these respective artists made. And you could probably assume that most of the reasons why these acts turned out bad was just because of labels wanting the bottom line and getting them to go in a more pop direction. Though the shift towards radio friendly stuff was Chad Kroeger's decision, it was a really missed opportunity considering what The State started with.
Yes, you heard that correctly. As much as Nickelback has come to be known as the punchline of the rock music scene, The State is one of the few albums that actually managed to show some real development from this band. Just listening through songs like Breathe, you can tell that these guys have some legitimate rock chops and have the potential to be something a lot bigger than just your average rock band.
And then Silver Side Up arrived and basically showed us that Nickelback were going to become legendary, just for all the wrong reasons. Then again, the fact that The State sounds so good is the real tragedy here. If Chad had decided to write something that was a little more genuine on the next album, we may have been spared the knock offs like Theory of a Deadman.
