10 Terrible Songs By Perfect Rock Bands
7. Iron Gland - Alice in Chains
Alice in Chains’ Dirt sounds like it was pure pain from beginning to end. The sessions might have been fine, but hearing Layne Staley pour out his soul about his heroin addiction makes you feel like you’re being pulled into Hell as you listen. This is the ultimate drug fueled darkness, so why the hell did they think that we needed a bit of humor sprinkled in?
As you make your way through the ugly side of the record, Iron Gland comes on sounding like a weird acid nightmare that you never wanted to go on. Originally written as a joke take on Black Sabbath’s Iron Man, the rest of the band found Jerry Cantrell’s riff really annoying, asking him to never play it again if he just recorded it on the album.
There are some living legends on here though, as Tom Araya from Slayer lays down some screams for the back half of the song to make it sound tortured. If it wasn't a proper song, this would make for at least a decent interlude between tracks, almost like you’re hearing the final gasps of a struggling addict begging to be set free from his demons.
