7. A Toilet

Next on the list of things you can't live without at a music festival is a toilet. Everyone needs the toilet, it€™s a fact of nature. But due to the fact that alcohol is a diuretic, you€™ll feel the need to relieve yourself more than normal. During a music festival there are a variety of toilet choices, such as portaloos that provide a level of privacy, but after days of use and exposure to sunlight these cubicles can become really smelly. Alternatively you can opt for the long drop toilet. Rather than an enclosed plastic box, these toilets are placed over a slurry pit dug in the ground below. The free flowing air help to dissipate the smells below but these can be problematic in the rain. There are ways to make the festival toilet experience a little better, such as hovering so that you don€™t have to make contact with the sometimes unclean toilet seat, make sure you use the toilets after they have been cleaned/drained, and make sure you bring a torch when using them at night.
