The lyrical content of many of Palmer's songs have been accused of being inappropriate. Listeners have previously complained that Oasis, a song dealing with rape and abortion, is too upbeat, and that Missed Me promotes pedophilia. The extent of the negative feedback is such that the Dresden Dolls website contains a section specifically dealing with hate mail, in which many of the negative letters are shared with the public and answered personally by Amanda. One of the letters that Palmer has shared on the site accused her of glorifying self-harm in her song Bad Habit. The lyrics of the song include the line "When I open a familiar scar, pain goes shooting like a star, comfort hasn't failed to follow so far," so it's easy to see why the person who wrote the letter thought it was promoting self-harm as a means of release of comfort. Palmer responded to the letter by clarifying that the song wasn't about self-harm at all. It was, in fact, about her childhood habit of picking at the skin around her fingernails with her teeth, nails, and occasionally sharp objects. She also praised the person who sent in the letter, stating that she was glad that the song provoked such a response over an important social issue. What other facts about Amanda Palmer do you know? With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
