10 Things You Didn't Know About Lemmy

10. He Started Motörhead When He Was 30

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B53qMo5KXkc Even when we first got eyes on Lemmy and co., he looked as though he'd been doing the rounds for time immemorial, a trait that would go on to embody both him and the band over the years. Motörhead were destined to still be standing when the world itself was breathing its last, and that's a feeling thousands of fans cherished, precisely because of Lemmy looking ready for anything when it got off the ground. It's easy to forget Lemmy was with Hawkwind for almost four years before a tiff with the lead singer and a drug charge got him booted out. He'd already seen the world by the time he was licking his wounds, and that powerful gnashing of teeth would be the drive to see Motörhead succeed, despite press at the time deriding his razor-throated vocals and guttural tones. There's a ton of early material that would get the retrospective recognition it deserved in the years that followed, and it was 1979's Overkill that truly kicked the doors in, forcing the world to take notice. And at that point? Lemmy was 35, set to make history.
