10. Alabama Shakes
blues/soul/roots rock From a technical standpoint I shouldnt even have to tell you about
Alabama Shakes. I mean, I dont even really need too because
Brittany Howard can sing it a hell of a lot better than you could attempt to say it. Just in case though, just in case youre not in the know or are sitting on the fence when it comes to
Alabama Shakes, Ill go through the formality of telling you a little bit about them. Started out of the after school jam sessions between the aforementioned singer/guitarist
Brittany Howard and bassist
Zac Cockerell, that at first played in the paddling pools of many genres including prog rock until the pair found their calling in roots rock. After that eureka moment, the forming of a group and a stint working up covers of
Led Zeppelin,
James Brown,
Otis Redding and
AC/DC,
Alabama Shakes really carved their sound. A sound that the early influence of those four portrays well; one that is as equally raw blues rock as it is heart-wrenching soul, and with
Howards sublime vocals sat atop like the cherry on the bands cake its no wonder
Jack White is like their best friend now. You should be too. http://youtu.be/Le-3MIBxQTw
