10 Things You Should Know About The Guns N' Roses Reunion

4. Steven Adler Won't Be Behind The Kit (Not Full Time Anyway)

Steven "Popcorn" Adler has been through a lot of ups and downs over the years. After being kicked out of Guns N' Roses in 1990 due to out of control substance abuse issues (and isn't that a slap in the face, given the rest of the band, save singer Axl Rose who cleaned up pretty early on, had the exact same issues), Adler became the poster boy for blown success: he was briefly brought back into the fold with a contract that had him promise to stay clean, only to wind up so wasted he was unable to play in the studio. Kicked out of GN'R again after blowing the recording session for Civil War (it was officially July 1991 when he was cut), he would try to sue the band over his dismissal, then suffered a stroke in 1996 after taking a speedball (a mixture of coke and heroin) that resulted in the left side of his face being temporarily paralyzed. In the late 90s, he turned up in the band BulletBoys with future GN'R guitarist DJ Ashba, but that was derailed by multiple domestic violence issues with separate women. By the 2000s he was a running punchline, and wound up on both Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew and the spin-off Sober House. Adler has continued to struggle to clean up over the years, making him a liability to have on tour full time. This means Frank Ferrer will be on drums, unless the band brings back its Illusions-era replacement drummer Matt Sorum, but that doesn't seem to be happening.
