10 Times Rock Bands Drastically Changed Their Sound

7. Two Virgins - John Lennon

At the end of the '60s, there was no rock fan who wasn't chomping at the bit to see what the Beatles were going to do next. Even though the White Album showed that they were going through a tough spot, there was no doubt that anything with one of the Fab Four's name on the title was going to be anything but spectacular. It was almost as if John Lennon knew that though...and went in the exact opposite direction for Two Virgins.

Being the first of many artistic collaborations he would do with the help of Yoko Ono, this album is a huge left turn into the world of avant garde music, with no real melodies to speak of. For those of you who thought that Revolution 9 off of the White Album was a harsh listen, this is going to be a rough ride, since most of this amounts to nothing except sound experiments being thrown together for the sake of artistic expression.

Given his knack for foresight, Lennon's anticommercial streak went the extra mile when he decided he would pose nude with Yoko for the cover image, which was later released covered up when sold to the public. For as creative a project as Two Virgins might seem on the surface, that doesn't mean that the Eccentric Beatle actually gave us something that was fun to listen to.
