10 Underrated Albums By Legendary Rock Music Bands

5. Warning - Green Day

Even as Green Day got into their 30’s, they were coming dangerously close to looking like old men by the time 2000 rolled around. The sounds of Dookie may have kickstarted the entire pop punk movement back in the day, but there were new kids on the block looking to take their place, with Blink-182 pretty much picking up where the rest of the guys had left off. And while Warning may not have been the most commercial record the band could have made at the time, it also might be the album that’s going to age the best over time.

Looking to break out of the traditional pop punk sounds like they were doing on Nimrod, Billie Joe Armstrong actually turned to a lot of folk rock when prepping for this album, taking pages out of his songwriting heroes like Bob Dylan and Ray Davies to create something a lot different than the likes of Basket Case. Although none of these songs may have been cut out to be singles by any stretch, each of them feel like a bold new avenue for Green Day to play with, going from the more straight ahead pop punk of Castaway to the vaudeville song Misery to basically making their own unplugged Beatles cut on Hold On.

There’s also no getting around the single Minority, which marks the band’s first steps into the world of political material and having one of the greatest choruses that Billie Joe has ever written. Green Day may have felt like they were just treading water here, but Warning practically built the bridge that brought them to American Idiot just one album later.
