10 Underrated Classic Rock Albums Of The '70s

3. Red Rose Speedway - Paul McCartney

The end of the Beatles signaled some rough times for each of the band members going forward. Though each member hit the ground running with impressive solo efforts, they also ran into their fair share of stumbling blocks. While Paul McCartney's career seemed the most fruitful with albums like Ram, the first offering with Wings on Wild Life was a bit of a mess.

Needing to reestablish his footing, McCartney hunkered down and delivered Red Rose Speedway, which was a bit more in line with the balladeer persona that he had been known for. The single "My Love" was the sure-fire hit from the record, but much of the other songs seem to get a raw deal as being insipid rock tunes. However, there's a lot of great stuff to be found on here, from the cute ballad of "One More Kiss" to the worn-in attitude of "Big Barn Bed."

While some of the record can feel like Paul on easy mode, the closing medley is a worthy successor to the medley on Abbey Road, with four songs being meshed together to create a free-flowing musical experience. Band on the Run may get the title of greatest Wings album, but Red Rose Speedway is proof that Paul's new outfit was far from one-note.
