10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The 2000s
1. Easier to Run - Linkin Park
In the grand scheme of nu metal releases, Linkin Park's Meteora is as close to perfection as you can probably get. With almost half of the record being released as singles and ending up on the album charts, these disaffected kids from California had stopped trying to figure things out and turned into the rock stars that they wanted to be. That being said, getting to that place doesn't come without its fair share of pain.
Across most of the tracks on this record, Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda talk about the angsty parts of their lives, from Somewhere I Belong to Numb. On the other hand, no other track on the album fits the feeling of pure pain quite like Easier to Run. Set to Brad Nelson's mammoth power chords, Chester Bennington's performance of this song is one of his best on the record, as he talks about finding comfort in walking away from his problems rather than tackle them head-on.
Though there's usually some hopeful undercurrent to something like this, it's interesting that this track doesn't really resolve itself at the end, leaving the listener to help fill the track in for themselves. For as many people see the angsty part of yourself as just a phase of adolescence, songs like this are a grim reminder that sometimes life doesn't sort itself out quite that smoothly.
