10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The '70s

6. Sweet Lady - Queen

At this point, Queen's A Night At the Opera might as well be coated in solid gold. After slogging it out with some of the more impressive outings by any other hard rock act, these British royals were able to come through with one of the most adventurous albums in the hard rock canon, complete with the pop singalong You're My Best Friend and the operatic epic Bohemian Rhapsody. Then again, if you have an album where every other song is amazing, something that's just badass might get overshadowed.

Arriving just between the space epic 39 and the ragtime jaunt Seaside Rendezvous, Sweet Lady is a meaty slice of hard rock that shows the band at their rawest. Across its runtime, it seems like Freddie Mercury is doing his best impression of a metal frontman, with Brian May shooting from the hip with licks that could have been hammered out by Jimmy Page.

For as much badass on display on this song, it was booted from the B-side single release in favor of Roger Taylor's ode to engines on I'm In Love With My Car. Though the title might say otherwise, this is the one moment where we are taken out of the opera and into a sweaty blues club, where the music bounces off the walls and works its way into your skull.
