10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The '70s

3. Beating Around the Bush - AC/DC

Highway to Hell is one of those records that just needs to be heard to be believed. Being the unintended cap-off for the Bon Scott era of AC/DC, these 10 tracks condensed everything great about these Aussies down to its bare essentials, from the snarl of Bon's voice to simple yet effective riff writing from Angus and Malcolm Young. Then again, they weren't afraid to throw the listener a curve ball from time to time.

Coming just at the midpoint of the record, Beating Around the Bush has to be one of the most hectic riffs to have ever come from these guys' amplifiers. While the foundation of the track is still indebted to the blues (as per usual), the actual speed is almost bordering on punk from the sheer speed. This is also the one exception when people say that playing AC/DC is easy, with Malcolm Young practically making the equivalent of a guitar tongue twister.

Given that it's on one of the greatest rock and roll records of all time, you'd think that this would get more love, but people usually tend to gravitate towards the straightahead singles from this era like the title track or Girls Got Rhythm. However, if you're even mildly curious of something a bit heavier than your average rock affair, try this one on for size and see the raw aggression on display.
