10 Underrated Hard Rock Songs Of The '80s
2. Night Songs - Cinderella
Many things about Cinderella just shouldn't work on paper. I mean... just look at the picture of these guys. Just one glance at this album cover makes you think you're going to be in for some of the most manufactured rock and roll ever conceived by man. However, the title track to Night Songs made you rethink everything that the album cover had told you.
With Tom Keifer at the helm, Night Songs is one of the heaviest tracks to come out of the late '80s, offering up riffs that sound like they could have been pumped out by Angus Young. Even more badass is when Keifer actually goes to open his mouth, with a shrill shriek that sounds like a combination between the crazed shouts of Steven Tyler and the out-of-body blues wails of Janis Joplin.
Standing at a mere four minutes, this song feels like it takes you on a journey through the underworld, almost as if you're being put on a train that's going at 1000 miles per hour. At a time when hair metal seemed to have lost its edge, Cinderella ended up giving us a song that felt like AC/DC mixed with Poison. Even if the rest of the record ended up being your typical hair metal affair, this opening song made one hell of a first impression.
