10 Underrated Linkin Park Songs
1. Easier to Run - Meteora
Upon the news of Chester's passing, people were quick to look into the lyrics to see all of the times where he talked about having despair. Going back through the catalog, many people kept bringing up something like Breaking the Habit, who's lyrics about overcoming suicidal thoughts were a lot harder to stomach when the singer died by his own hand. If you look further up the record though, that kind of sadness was personified in Easier to Run.
While not sounding all that dissimilar than anything on Meteora, this might be the closest that Chester has ever come to distilling a single emotion into a song. By putting together his melody along with the crushing guitars, you can really hear the despair in Chester's voice, along with the frustration that comes with not being fully in control of your own mind in the choruses.
Above all else, the chorus of this song cuts right to the point of what makes Chester's struggles that much more potent. When he talks about wanting to leave this place and not have to deal with his mind anymore, it's not coming from a place of pain or even from annoyance. It's coming from a place of exhaustion, and to hear him admit that is a lot more cathartic in retrospect. Even though Chester might not have been able to face his demons, we can at least take comfort in knowing that his music helped so many people face their own.
