10 Unlucky Musicians Who Narrowly Missed Out On Making It Big
2. Tony McCarroll - Oasis
Britpop legends Oasis are no strangers to controversy, with one famous one in particular regarding original drummer and founding member Tony McCarroll. After forming what would become Oasis in 1991, McCarroll played a crucial role in the band's early history and rise to fame before being ousted in the mid-1990s.
After being signed to Creation Records in early 1993, the Britpop favourites released their debut single Supersonic, along with the album Definitely Maybe in early 1994. Oasis quickly became one of the most popular acts in the country, but during the group's rise to fame, McCarroll frequently clashed with lead songwriter Noel Gallagher.
Tony was then fired in 1995 shortly before the recording of Oasis' most popular and iconic album (What's The Story) Morning Glory?. As a result, McCarroll missed out on playing on classics such as Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger. After spending a few years travelling, Tony became a music teacher, finding his niche helping and guiding young musicians.
Several years on, in 1999, McCarroll sued Oasis citing his unfair dismissal for £18 million, but the Gallaghers and their former drummer settled out of court for a six figure sum.
