10 Viral Metal Bands That Didn't Stay Popular
2. Okilly Dokilly
Okilly Dokilly was the Ned Flanders-inspired band formed in 2015 that sang The Simpsons lyrics to noisy electronicore - excuse me - to Nedal. All pretty standard stuff so far, right?
Their lead single and the song that kickstarted the hype for this absurd project was “White Wine Spritzer”, showcasing the respective Neds that came in all shapes and sizes – Red Ned, Stead Ned, Thread Ned, Bled Ned, and most appropriately of all, the ringleader Head Ned.
The song was fun enough and it’s easy to see why the act got popular, with major outlets such as Metal Injection and Alternative Press taking notice. The debut album Howdilly Doodilly wasn’t exactly an AOTY contender, but the occasional catchy lyric gave the project some validity (how else are you going to scream “nothing at all” over a breakdown?). Ultimately though, it did have a short creative lifespan.
An uneventful second album, an unsteady line-up, and touring plans ravaged by COVID led to the band folding in 2022. Before they left though, Okilly Dokilly attempted a Guinness World Record for ‘Most People Dressed Like Characters from The Simpsons in One Place’, and got a feature on The Simpsons itself, appearing in the end credits of the 2019, Season 30 episode, ‘I'm Just a Girl Who Can't Say D'oh'.
