10 Ways Metallica Changed Rock Music

2. Kill 'Em All: Unleashing A New Sound

Released on July 25th, 1983, Metallica's first full length album Kill 'Em All announced to the world that the metal genre had arrived in the world of rock 'n' roll. The album was complete with all the tracks from the No Life 'Til Leather demo that was released a year prior, as well as new pieces and even a bass solo piece from new bassist Cliff Burton. The first edition of Kill 'Em All also included two cover songs entitled Am I Evil? and Blitzkrieg which were later removed from future pressings due to royalty issues. http://youtu.be/aAITxlCsj4Y The release of Kill 'Em All heralded in a new age of rock and metal music, especially into the United States. Metallica had successfully crafted their debut set off of the influences from Europe and The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal acts like Mötorhead and Iron Maiden who were just taking off across the pond on the heels of declining acts like Queen and Led Zeppelin. James, Lars, Dave, and Cliff had not only brought British heavy metal to America, but in doing so they had released their own masterpiece that is a full-on metal assault on the ears, being a major label debut for heavy music that is now a staple possession among rock and metal fans worldwide.
