10 Weirdest David Bowie Songs
9. It’s No Game Pt. 1 - Scary Monsters And Super Creeps (1980)
The album Scary Monsters And Super Creeps, the first to be released after David's Berlin Trilogy, saw Bowie infuse all the experimental tendencies along with the more accessible rock and pop of his earlier works. This arguably created something even more unique with the fusion of the two styles creating one of David Bowie's most original albums.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the album's opener It's No Game (Pt. 1), which features, amongst other things, a Japanese female spoken-word into and a riff and guitar solo from the king of avant-garde guitar, Robert Fripp.
Bowie's choice of vocal delivery on the song adds to the odd atmosphere, with David screaming the vocals at the top of his voice, delivering the harshest vocal of his career. At the end of the song after four minutes of gloriously harsh music, Bowie repeatedly screams shut up over another Fripp riff before the sound of a tape machine stopping brings the chaos to an end.
These seemingly disparate offbeat elements however all gel together surprisingly well to create one of the best album openers in the Thin White Duke's career.
