10 Weirdest Rock Songs That Became Hits

1. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Some of the people who initially clicked on this list are probably scratching their heads right now seeing Bohemian Rhapsody at the top right now. After all, this is the one of the most essential songs in rock history, so how the hell could it possibly be considered weird anymore? Things only become classic with the passage of time though, and this was one of the most off the wall rock songs ever released at the time.

Also becoming the most expensive single in U.K. history at the time, Freddie Mercury took us on an emotional experience with this song, almost jamming three songs into one without accounting for structure. While the ballad sound of the first section sounds gorgeous, don't get attached to it for very long, since the band spends only 2 minutes on it before the operatic section comes in, complete with the highest falsettos you've ever heard and then breaking into some all out '70s rock and roll.

In the context of the song, it all fits in just right, but if you were there on the ground floor with the song, something like "do the fandango" and calling out for Galileo would have sounded like some of the most bug nutty stuff that you have ever heard. You believe in this song because Queen believed in it, and that's enough for even the weirdest of songs to find a home on the charts.
