10 Worst Music Collaborations Of All Time

4. Metallica/Lou Reed

It was an amazing day for metal fans when Metallica performed at the anniversary shows for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With a return to form album in Death Magnetic under their belt, the titans of thrash metal bouncing off of legends like Ozzy Osbourne and Ray Davies of the Kinks was more than your average metalhead could bear. Then...Metallica got an idea...AN AWFUL IDEA.

Coming off of the collaborative performance they did with Lou Reed of the Velvet Underground, both acts were so inspired that they decided to go into the studio to make a record. Though you could say that the resulting Lulu was adventurous, this is by far one of the most ill-advised moves any mainstream rock band has ever taken. Given Reed's focus on lyrics and droning speaking voice, the thought of that paired with a handful of decent riffs from Metallica seem to cancel each other out.

All of a sudden, the Lou Reed fans are getting annoyed that they can't hear the man's poetry, and metalheads are getting pissed because they're listening to what could be good Metallica songs being neutered by a droning art rock saint. It also doesn't help that these songs drone on FOREVER, with a handful breaching the 10 minute mark. Even though Lou Reed and Metallica each have their own separate legacies, this is the one collaborative effort that neither fanbase really wants to bring up.
