12 Best Closing Songs On Hard Rock Albums

6. Numb - Linkin Park

In the grand scheme of followup records, Meteora is the classic example of how to get over the dreaded sophomore slump. Rather than cower and make a rerun of Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park struck gold with some of the greatest songs of their career that tapped into all the pain that lied in the hearts of angsty teenagers. Nearly half of the track list ended up on the radio, but the closer "Numb" is where things got super bleak.

Though Linkin Park didn't shy away from topics like suicide on songs like "Breaking the Habit," this track shows a much different melancholy that comes from feeling alone in the world. Rather than just write vague lyrics about being alone, the band dissects the relationships in their lives and how it causes them to feel emotionless based on their friends' apathy or predatory nature.

It's easy to cry out in pain in these situations, but it's even more tragic for you to end up a shallow version of yourself based on your own anger. "Numb" is definitely not the heaviest track to come from Meteora, but in terms of delivering a strong message to their fanbase, this is about as real as it gets.
