12 Best Cult Hard Rock Albums Of The 90s

4. Incesticide - Nirvana

For the regular Nirvana fans, the band's catalog seems to be restricted to only a handful of albums. After Kurt Cobain killed himself in the spring of 1994, the life of one of the best alternative bands was cut abruptly short. While the band's untouchable offerings turn up on Nevermind and In Utero, this collection of B-sides still holds up as a pretty damn good album.

On the surface, the album is nothing more than a compilation stop gap, but the content shows a unique side of the band. Though Cobain always held onto a more punk rock ethos throughout the group's tenure, he always emphasized a love for new wave music, which included everything from Devo to the Butthole Surfers. Fitting comfortably in between melodic and heavy, Incesticide is probably the closest thing to that new wave sound that Cobain had talked about.

There are some fantastic one-offs like the infectious "Sliver" as well as some of the most raucous cuts of the band's career like "Downer" and "Aneurysm." The band even included an electric version of the haunting Nevermind cut "Polly." Spanning from new wave to pop to noise jams, Incesticide really runs the gamut on everything that made Cobain tick musically.
