12 Best Hard Rock Singers Of The 1990s

5. Dave Grohl - Foo Fighters

By the time 1994 rolled around, Dave Grohl was absolutely devastated. After spending a few years being the drummer for Nirvana, all the success faded away when Kurt Cobain took his own life. Not wanting to spend the rest of his professional career moping, Grohl turned to music to deal with his pain.

Once Grohl compiled a tape of his own songs under the name Foo Fighters, word quickly began to spread until they were a full-fledged household name. Though many great musicians have made their way into the Foos like Taylor Hawkins and Pat Smear, the main reason the band is as big as they are today comes from Grohl's tenacity.

From the minute he opens his mouth, Dave possesses the greatest habits that a rock singer could ask for. On songs like "Everlong" and "I'll Stick Around," Grohl has an amazing grit in his voice along with a certain tunefulness to carry the songs onto the radio. Albums like the Colour and the Shape demonstrate this beautifully, as Grohl pens songs that sound like if the Beatles were birthed as a punk band. Dave Grohl may not have set out to be an extravagant rock singer, but his relentless energy turned him into one of the best vocal presences the late 90's had ever seen.
