3. The Bug - Skeng
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwmUOJR-GwA Never mind the damage to the roof from your fists, what about those snares? If the sound system in your car is anything like the one Kevin "The Bug" Martin was towing around during his London Zoo album tour, then playing Skeng will not be so much a listening experience, more like a physical invasion, particularly in the claustrophobic confines of a moving vehicle. Reports of those gigs found that regular club sound systems were "augmented by some gigantic, profoundly evil monitors; specialist hardware with unfeasibly wide bass cones" which in all probability "could be employed as an alternate method for controlled demolitions." With some of the nastiest attitude ever put on vinyl, Skeng's lyrics describe the aftermath of a shootout with images such as "people be like when dog eat tripe." An exceptionally versatile piece of music though, it has even used as a protest weapon. According to legend, it was played on 18 inch subs and tweeters that were pushed on a trolley into Conservative Party HQ in Millbank. Take that, you privileged, bass music haters. Suggested punching pattern: When slaving under the hypnotic power of Skeng, punching the roof isn't an option, it's an involuntary reflex.
