12 Great Heavy Metal Deep Cuts
11. Avenged Sevenfold - Eternal Rest
Avenged Sevenfold have gained incredible commercial success since their pivot to a more radio friendly sound after 'City Of Evil'. The new direction saw the band explore more conceptual songwriting, creating a story for fans to follow. Even after the passing of The Rev, the band have gone from strength to strength, selling over 8 million albums worldwide.
Long before their phenomenonal success, the group adopted a more aggressive sound. Their metalcore roots are mostly ignored today, even by the band themselves, however some of their most exciting work comes before their tonal shift.
A great example of this comes on 2003's 'Waking The Fallen'. The first album to feature guitarist Synyster Gates was a blistering show of the talent each member brought to the table. 'Eternal Rest' is a brilliant showcase of the technicality Gates brought with him.
Opening up with an insane solo from the new guitarist over a intense, thrashy riff, the song builds into a slow, doomy sound with searing vocals throughout.
