12 Great Heavy Metal Deep Cuts

9. Slipknot - Purity

Few bands of this style gain popularity as quickly as Slipknot did. Their brand of aggressive verses mixed with catchy choruses appealed to a wide audience.

Their self titled debut made waves across the world and lead single 'Wait and Bleed' was in heavy rotation on rock TV channels and radio. Sadly, one of the best tracks from the album was removed after controversy hit.

'Purity' was the subject of legal woes. The lawsuit claimed that Taylor took inspiration from a story circulating at the time, about a girl who was kidnapped, buried alive and subjected to horrific torture. The story was actually fake, an invention of a website specialising in fictional crime stories.

The writer of this particular story took issue with the track. They claimed it infringed on the copyright they held on the story, despite no indication on the site that the story was a work of fiction.

Taylor responded to the allegations, insisting only the title was inspired by the story, however the track was removed from the album.
