12 Great Things In Metal This Week (18th Dec)

4. Arid Wave Releases "Glebe" Music Video

Heavy, sludgy, gritty and grungy, Arid Wave and I share a hometown in that we both emanate from Southampton, UK. And let's just say that the power trio's deep, doomy, punk-laden rock n' roll perfectly fits the city's local music scene, which mostly revolves around such backstreet bars as the Joiners and Talking Heads.

And while it may be fairly unlikely that readers outside of the South Coast will be familiar with Arid Wave, where I come from, they're local darlings, often drawing a dedicated crowd that's endlessly proud of these hometown heroes.

The band's first attempt at sonic world domination came in the form of their self-released debut Mongrel last year (which has since been redone and re-released as Mongrel: Redux), but the first legitimate music video the band has ever produced came just this week in the form of "Glebe".

Simple yet effective, the clip starts out as simple performance footage, but soon descends into classic horror territory as the band members begin to bleed from places you never want to bleed from.

It's a fun, gory tribute to classic horror with an equally fun, Nirvana-esque tune to complement it.
