12 Hard Rock Bands Who Succeeded By Never Selling Out
3. Motorhead
Ever since forming the band in the late 60's, Lemmy Kilmister always had the same mantra at every show: We are Motorhead and we play rock and roll. Though the band has had ups and downs in their career, the vast catalog of classics show that Lemmy lived up to that title.
The initial beginnings for this band were not for the faint of heart, with the band ripping through some of the most feral rock songs ever committed to tape, culminating in the landmark album Ace of Spades. Any band would kill to have that record as their calling card, but there was much more work to be done with Lemmy at the helm.
Throughout the years, Lemmy has built up as a reputation for playing to no one but himself. His idea of making music is not thinking about what will suit his audience but relying on the music that will satisfy him. Whether it's blues, metal, punk, or just plain old rock and roll, the band have kept up a reputation for having some of the most furious hymns to ever grace our eardrums. Lemmy may have passed on in recent years, but Motorhead stands as the ultimate example of a band who never cowered to what was the "right" sound.
