12 Hard Rock Bands Who Succeeded By Never Selling Out
8. Queens Of The Stone Age
From their humble beginnings, Queens of the Stone Age have remained an ever-evolving outfit. Joshua Homme's goal with forming QOTSA was to explore every nook and cranny of the music industry, and yet the band still seems to garner major attention despite their eclectic musical reinventions.
While the band may have sounded a bit more metal in their early years, the signature menace in the music has remained intact throughout each of the band's albums. QOTSA have certainly had their fair share of time in and out of the spotlight from the critically acclaimed Songs For the Deaf to the cult favorite Era Vulgaris, but each of them feel like a clear snapshot of where the band is at at that particular moment.
Even when the band takes a shot in the dark, they still end up making something that is more than worth your time. Take the band's newest release Villains, produced by Mark Ronson. The last thing that many fans would have wanted was for the band to work with the producer behind "Uptown Funk," but Homme clearly has his focus squarely on the song and has always used his collaborators as different paints to create an exquisite hard rock pastiche. Here's hoping that artistic touch doesn't lose its edge in the years to come.
