The hit single Crazy by Gnarls Barkley topped the UK singles chart in 2006 having not sold a single physical copy, and was the first hit single to accomplish this on downloads alone.

As the song was leaked online in late 2005 and gained substantial radio play, the path was set for Crazy to hit number one upon its release in March of the next year. This ushered in a new age for music and officially set off the transition from physical media to digital and streaming in the music world, changing the face of the industry forever.

While Gnarls Barkley themselves may not have had the longevity of a game-changing musical act, or even of their own song, which can still regularly be heard on radios and in nightclubs up and down the country, they nonetheless hold an important space in the history of pop music, for better or worse.
