12 No-Skip Hard Rock Albums
11. Pearl Jam - Ten
1991 saw the release of many important Rock albums, but none more important than Pearl Jam’s debut record, Ten. This introduced the legendary band to the world and contained many of their greatest hits.
Beginning with a soft intro track, Once then shifts into a harder paced classic. Eddie Vedder’s deeply gruff vocals escalate into the chorus, revealing his range.
Even Flow follows and is lighter in tone than Once. The band synchronise drums, bass and guitar creating a solid foundation for Vedder’s vocals to soar. Unbelievably catchy, Even Flow is stellar.
Continuing to illustrate the power of Vedder’s vocals, Alive is a slower track with a staggering chorus. The solo towards the end of the track is ongoing and builds to a perfect climax.
Why Go begins with a velvety baseline which carries its way through the rest of the song, and Black is a downtempo ballad with a beautiful drear throughout.
More goosebump-inducing bass to kick off Jeremy. The song, about a bullied schoolboy, contains some of the finest lyrics in all of Rock music.
Oceans is another chilled outing, while Porch is a fun, fast-paced track which feels related to Guns N’ Roses’ Welcome to the Jungle.
The bright arpeggio played throughout Garden, coupled with Vedder’s strong yet depressive vocals give this track a solemn feel.
Deep is the album’s last foray into heaviness, while Release is a soft and sweet farewell.
