12 PERFECT Hard Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

9. The Colour And The Shape - Foo Fighters

Dave Grohl was in a bit of a conundrum by the late 90's. Though he had managed to successfully distance himself from Nirvana with the debut of his new band Foo Fighters, many critics were skeptical as to whether this kind of success was a fluke or not.

From the opening strains of the record, it was made loud and clear that Foo Fighters were a band that were here to stay. The whole record doesn't so much start as it does explode, as the opening lilt "Doll" goes straight into the headbanger "Monkey Wrench." The entire album sees Grohl parading through all the grand tropes of rock and roll, from punkish aggression on "Enough Space" to the lofty ballad "February Stars."

That's not to say that each song needs to be a rager though. Songs like "See You" and "Walking After You" offer a calming presence amid the auditory destruction. The tail end of the record also boasts what is arguably the band's most famous tune "Everlong," a song that is equals parts sincere and bombastic. This record is the best of both worlds by giving hard rock fans something to headbang to while also being tuneful enough to get new fans into the genre.
