12 PERFECT Hard Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

4. Master Of Puppets - Metallica

Throughout the 80's, it always felt like there was something festering deep within Metallica. Though the band had started off as a ratty thrash metal band with Kill Em All, the tides were changing once the band released the epic sounding Ride the Lightning. These records felt like a build, and the band let us know just what is was building to on Master of Puppets.

From start to finish, this album is an 8 track blast of pure energy, with some of the greatest riffs that the metal scene had ever heard. As the opening guitar build of "Battery" kicks in, the record never lets off the gas with songs that seem less like music and more like audible journeys through the darkness of the human soul. Lyrically, this album was a step up for metal too, with subjects tackling everything from war to death to drugs to the mentally insane.

Every single member of the band shines here, but the album is also known as the swansong for bassist Cliff Burton, who left us with a musical gift to the metal scene with the instrumental epic "Orion." Metallica may have softened up as the years went on, but Master of Puppets showed just how much havoc the band could create when firing on all cylinders.
