12 Times Eminem Spit Lyrical Fire

5. Forgot About Dre (Dre Dre - 2001)

For anybody with a doubt regarding Eminem’s credibility as a rapper in the wider genre of Hip-hop, Forgot About Dre put them in place. Collaborating with friend and producer (and the eponymous person who was un-remembered), Dr Dre, Eminem’s biggest break came from his involvement in this track.

Appearing on Dre Dre’s comeback album, 2001, Forgot About Dre shares the former-NWA member’s thoughts on his treatment in the preceding years, ‘f*ck rap, you can have it back.’ By this time, Dre had left Death Row Records, lost several friends, and been in some controversy. In 1996, Dre founded Aftermath Entertainment and began producing several popular hits, including Blackstreet’s No Diggity.

Eminem signed with Aftermath in 1999 and quickly rose to prominence. Collaborating on Dre’s first album since 1992’s The Chronic, Eminem solidified himself as a huge mainstream star. Em announced his allegiance with his producer in the lines, ‘And when the cops came through / Me and Dre stood next to a burned down house / With a can full of gas and a hand full of matches / And still weren’t found out / So from here on out, it’s the Chronic II / Startin’ today and tomorrow’s anew.’ The metaphor of Dre and Em burning down the house was no understatement, and their partnership is just as strong to this day.
