12 Worst Sellout Albums In Hard Rock
3. Generation Swine - Motley Crue
Whenever you turn on a Motley Crue record, it feels like stepping into a great big party. Regardless of what kind of edge the band has to their sound, each of their records has that relentless energy that makes you want to go and tear up everything in sight. After the band finally reunited in the late 90's, fans expecting to be wowed all over again got a bit of a different story with Generation Swine.
With Vince Neil back in the band after a stint with John Corabi, it seemed that the time was right to go back to their roots, but this record ups the ante on experiments. Quickly embracing the sounds of industrial and electronic music, these songs make for for some of the most uncomfortable experiences on a Crue record. There was always a bit of menace in the Crue's songs, but these songs were the first ones that made you feel dirty after listening to them.
Instead of being a bold new direction for the group going forward, this is basically everyone's favorite hair metal band trying to pull off a miracle and turn into Nine Inch Nails. It has a handful of good tracks, but Generation Swine is something best left in the shadows of hard rock music.
