13 Crazy Music Myths

6. The Legend Of Keith Richards

It's the biggest musical cliché to say that Keith Richards should probably be dead. The amount of drugs and alcohol that have racked his body would have destroyed a lesser human. That much is absolutely true. Yet his legend has been expanded by several crazy stories that just make him appear like even more of a superhuman. Firstly, he claimed to have snorted his father's ashes in an interview once. He's since withdrawn that comment, but maybe that was due to the bad publicity it received. When someone is as messed up on speedballs as he frequently is/was, it's not really too much of a stretch to believe they'd do something so insane and, to be honest, disrespectful. A second incident that shows how much of a nutter Richards is occurred when he reportedly had a blood transfusion in order to clear drugs from his body. This one is probably less likely to be true than the ashes incident (miserable science, ruining everything again...), but it's a signal of the reputation for chaos that has followed The Rolling Stones' guitarist throughout his career. Whatever you think of these rumours, Keith Richards is definitely immortal. That's not a myth. The evidence is overwhelming.
