13 Thoughts You've Had If You've Ever Started A Band
12. How Hard Is It To Find A Good Bassist?
No-one really wants to be a bassist. They are the guys who stand in the shadows, as far from the limelight as they could possibly be, tapping out that repetitive bass line over and over again, wishing fervently that they'd stuck at the guitar. Yeah, then they would be able to shred out some awesome solos, have a super-cool nickname, and be adored by all. Even a rhythm guitarist would be better than this.
But even those people who aren't good enough to play the guitar would usually rather than give up music altogether than make the transition to bass. It's just not cool enough.
This makes it night on impossible to find someone who is not only willing to play bass, but is also good at it. Unless you are a bassist, in which case you are high in demand, and everyone wants a piece of you. Unless you are uncool, like your instrument. Or you think slap bass is brilliant. In which case "Oh, yeah, we just got someone else - yeah, Jake's cousin's mate - sorry..."
Unless you are Flea. Then bass is cool.
