Arguably the greatest Christmas number of them all. This rendition by the impossibly talented Chan Marshall is as minimalist as you can get. A rudimentary piano line, a touch of lamenting violin and Marshall€™s exceptional larynx. This doesn€™t make it any less affecting however; in fact the sparseness of the recording offers a far more intimate listening experience.

Recorded in a slightly lo-fi, off-kilter way, it€™s a beautifully moving version of this lyrically wonderful old standard. And the more you listen to it, the more heart-warming and enchanting it gets. Go on. Stick it on repeat and watch how it devours you. If your Christmas Day family bust up is merely an argument between playing this or any other track on this list then consider yourself lucky to be having a very merry Christmas indeed.
