15 Best Albums Of The Decade (So Far)

1. Kamasi Washington - The Epic

Brainfeeder

At nearly three hours' running time, it's highly likely that Kamasi Washington's The Epic is the longest playing album of the decade so far - the fact that it's so consistently polished and full of range and depth means it's also one of the best.

Kamasi Washington's input helped to elevate the production on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly - here his incredible jazz talents are allowed to run amok, exploring everything from traditional jazz, fusion, and the soulful musical musings of past masters such as John Coltrane and Miles Davis, with some beautifully vocal contributions from Dwight Trible and Patrice Quinn.

Washington's searing saxophone provides the recurring motifs which bind the lengthy running time together, while the album as a whole feels like a long overdue bridge between the old and new: refreshing, refined and performed by a group of musicians at the peak of their abilities.
