15 Best Foo Fighters Songs

7. Home

198548 This is my favorite Foo Fighters ballad. It's a love song to everything he holds dear that he leaves behind when he goes away. It's the first song (though the last on the album) that we hear the album's title "Echos and silence, patience and grace". Somehow I don't think he's talking about himself. It is almost an ode to everything that lead him to this point, at the height of his career. I wonder sometimes what it must be like to be Dave, he never planned any of it, and yet is living out dreams of every rock wannabe alive. I feel in this one he is saying to us to come a little closer, giving us a rare and unusual glimpse into his world. It's one of his best vocals too, for me, as he's known for doing double tracks. He said he always had insecurities about his voice, and here, it's not only naked words but a naked voice. Just him and a piano. Dave quote: "I wrote this at home on the piano, then Taylor and I recorded a demo of it. I sat and wrote the lyrics in about 10 minutes, sang it once, listened to it, and just felt overwhelmed by how revealing it was. It made me feel quite vulnerable, so much so that it's hard to listen to. I get really choked up thinking about all the time I spend away from the things that are important to me. It's tough being away on tour; it's even tough just to be talking about how much I wish I was with my family. It's the kind of song I can't imagine singing live because it's going to be too much."

6. White Limo

168041 Damn, I LOVE this song. It makes me wanna... well, I will try not to get too graphic, but it involves alcohol, a partner, and probably not a bed. Or, the other possible scenario - jumping around my room, screaming my brains off, unable to contain myself. Both of these things have happened with this song. I'm still debating with myself - what other awesome things can be done to this song? Maybe this is why they rarely play this song live, because it's too dangerous, people would go nuts! Also, the video is awesome. This really goes back to the fantastic story telling of their older videos. Four guys eyeing a Limo and having parties in and out of it. So simple, yet so perfect and hysterical. Dave quote: "White Limo has such a badass riff it's f*cking insane. It makes you want to break into someone's car and steal their stereo." Oh, there's a scenario I have yet to try. Now, where did I put my crowbar...

Born in Israel, but raised partly in the UK, Shira is rather an odd duck. She will get in your face with her opinion, but will then be super polite to the waitress serving her a cocktail, no matter how bad the service is. Movies are her passion, along with good TV, music, and Shakespeare. She loves to sing and goes to karaoke a lot, too. She will do anything creative, and will resort to finger painting if necessary. Shira also, apparently, enjoys writing about herself in third person, which is weird. But she just finished her first Fantasy novel, and it's not about her, so that's ok. Shira is very glad to be a part of WhatCulture!
