15 Best Guitar Solos Of The Decade (So Far)

7. Trivium - Caustic Are The Ties That Bind (3:55)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOP5bnQ2QvU At one time you'd think Trivium were about to pat you on the back, the all-encompassing press coverage surrounding them back in 2005 essentially made them omnipresent. It was all for good reason though; Ascendancy was just one of those unexpectedly flawless albums that bands make careers on - and from then on in it was up to Matt Heafy and co. to show lightning could strike twice. Sadly they had a bit of a critical deviation with 2006's The Crusade (despite it having some brilliant tracks like Tread the Floods, To The Rats and the title instrumental), however all that did was light a fire under the band for the considerable future, as they promptly released the career-best Shogun and 2011's followup In Waves. Caustic sees them take on something of an Iron Maiden bent in the solo and subsequent harmonised riffs - it's a really progressive passage that ebbs and flows perfectly as both Heafy and co-lead Corey Beaulieu weave some brilliant lines around each other, taking turns to own the spotlight in between.
