15 Best Guitar Solos Of The Decade (So Far)

1. Machine Head - Darkness Within (3:16)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjP1w3MIZsg There's something about Machine Head's playing, the way both Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel wrench and writhe their dual string bends, it's like they're pulling them from Hell itself. Darkness Within actually saw the otherwise brutally heavy band take a completely different direction tonally, brought about from Flynn sitting in his car one rain-soaked evening as he pondered on what a life on the road really means to him, his family and the fans. What emerged was one of the finest songs of the band's career, with a solo that's up there with Metallica's Unforgiven as one that'll make entire stadiums of people go all wide-eyed with adoration, and between the combination of that tight tapping section, perfect note selection and enough character behind the whole thing to really set it all off, Machine Head once again proved they're one of the all-time greats.
