15 Best Hard Rock Singers Of All Time
5. Ozzy Osbourne - Black Sabbath
If there wasn't a Black Sabbath, metal as we know it probably would not exist. While there had been heavy bands like Led Zeppelin coming out of the woodwork, the perfect combination of hard rock and harsh grooves didn't fully congeal until Sabbath released their debut in 1970. Though Tony Iommi's riffs brought the punch to Sabbath's songs, fans couldn't get enough of the psychopath they had out front.
From the very beginnings of Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne was the definition of a wild man. With each passing song, you could feel the dread and sorrow dripping off of every word, as if he was trying to lure you into the deepest depths of the underworld. These haunting passages took on even greater strength once you saw it live, where Ozzy transformed from a disembodied voice to a full blown madman that had been let out of his cage for the first time.
Even after his drug abuse led to his dismissal from Sabbath, Osbourne spun his luck into the greatest solo career in metal history, as he made further hits like "Crazy Train" and "Mr Crowley." While the branches of heavy metal have grown further apart over time, almost any metalhead will agree that Osbourne holds a special place in the world of heavy music.
