15 Best Hard Rock Singers Of All Time
14. Joshua Homme - Queens Of The Stone Age
After the grunge scene hit the hard rock airwaves, the entire landscape of rock vocals suddenly changed. Instead of the typical high end singers we were used to in the 80's, bands were now free to sing however they felt so long as it had heart behind it. Seattle may have been the focal point, but the next contender for rock vocals was to be found a bit further south in the California desert.
Originating in the band Kyuss, Joshua Homme didn't fully come into his own until he started his own musical project with Queens of the Stone Age. In terms of vocal prowess, the tone of Josh's voice actually is somewhere in between the high and low extremes. While his usual voice is typically low, the power he has with his falsetto has made for some of the more impressive QOTSA performances on tracks like "Smooth Sailing."
Regardless of which vocal range he prefers, the actual strength of Josh's tone is in the mood he brings across, which is grimy, lustful, and full of sick pleasure. The band definitely earn their title of stoner metal, but whenever Josh opens his mouth to sing, it always feel like the sonic equivalent of a cognac on the rocks.
