15 Best Heavy Metal Songs Of 2016 (So Far)

10. Gorguts - Wandering Times

Quebec, Canada€™s technical death metal group Gorguts have been lurking on the fringes of the genre for quite some time now. After a split in 2001, the group roared back with the excellent Colored Sands in 2013 and look to further cement their comeback with a fantastic EP which features one of their highlights to date €“ the uncompromisingly brutal €˜Wandering Times€™.

Intros don't come much more frightening and ominous than this, and Gorguts don€™t disappoint in executing it with supreme aplomb. The main hook of the song (if you could even call it that) is a rickety guitar line, which is further supported by intense guttural vocals, intricate bass notes and off-beat and pretty much off everything drum patterns, all stitched together through the track€™s many transitions.

This one is scarily hypnotic, from the first second it splutters its guts up to the final moments of uneasiness that possess the outro, making sure to pack the centre bulk of the track with as much firepower as humanly possible.

If you like your metal extreme, then you don't want to miss Gorguts' latest offering. It's one that contains some of the most sinister sounding music of 2016.
