A song could not get more personal for Vedder, as it's a song about him leaving his stepfather in the past. The lyrics hit hard and fast; "I'm not about to give thanks or apologise", "Saw things so much clearer/ Once you, were in my rear-view mirror." Pure emotion.

The music manages to help highlight Eddie's vocals, with passionate playing from all members, particularly drummer Dave Abruzzese's part which doesn't let up. A chaotic outro rounds off a song filled with bitterness and anger, with every instrument going off by itself. Each musician lets their instrument do the talking - or rather screaming. 

It's hard to listen Vedder scream "REAR VIEW MIRROR" over and over and not feel emotional, and almost always when played live it's extended, allowing the band to add their own individual mark on the song. A memorable hook, personal lyrics and power, rearviewmirror is a song the band will be remembered for.
